Turning my Blog into a Book

Turning my Blog into a Book

As many of you know, I am just a normal everyday American Girl. Well, for five years, this American Girl left her homeland and moved to Europe. This would not only turn out to be such a life altering event in my life but in the lives of my whole family. It also would become the time in my life when I started writing. As a teacher and mom, I had always been a lover of children’s books and enjoyed reading to little ones. This time in my life would introduce a love for writing and this eventually led to writing children’s books.

I began my journey in the Netherlands by sharing with family and friends on Facebook my daily adventures. In the beginning I would share funny posts about me learning how to drive a stick better. I had driven a stick in high school a few times. But nothing could prepare me for having my first rental car there being a stick and being forced to have to drive that way all the time. We had ordered me a standard driving car, but it was going to take three months to arrive.

I got honked at all the time for stalling out trying to get to first gear all the time at lights. The Dutch are so calm and understanding. They would whip around me and tap their head. I would learn later; this was like flipping someone off, but it means WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!

The best day was when my daughter and I got honked at and it wasn’t for stalling. It was a hey good looking honk. OK, I’ll take that. Haha

These funny little stories I would post to my family and friends. A few months into my adventures a friend suggested a I start a blog. I had no idea what a blog was, but I would soon have American Girl in Holland all set up and ready to share with my friends and family. I truly wrote it so that my family and I would never forget the incredible opportunity we had been given.

Well, I have been back in the United States for five years. I have written and published my first children’s picture book with another one in the works. I’ve decided in the down time that I want to put my blog into a book. I may be the only one who reads it and that’s ok with me. I write for myself and if others enjoy, that is just icing on the cake. Speaking of others enjoying, at this point close to 190,000 people from around the world have tuned in to read American Girl in Holland. I have been gone five years and still about 50 people a day tune in to give my little blog a read. I find that extremely nice. I hope I am giving others guidance as they venture through their expat adventures.

I’ll share more later what this amazing book will be like but yes, it will be called American Girl in Holland. It will not just be a repeat of the blog. More will be added, and I will also be incorporating more stories I had shared on Facebook or just memories. I am looking forward to sharing with you all the format of this fun book.

Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading along with me as I write my next book. This chapter in my life (pun intended) has been a lot of fun.
