Blueberry Pancake Publishing~ The Story Behind the Name

Blueberry Pancake Publishing ~ The Story Behind the Name What I’m learning as I meander my way through the Indy publishing world is patience. People have begun to ask me when will the first book be ready to purchase. I tell them with a smile… as soon as it’s finished. I don’t want to rush through the process because I want to make sure it’s perfect. But as we wait, I’ll tell you another question people have been asking me and that is…. How did you come up with Blueberry Pancake Publishing? Well, as different names were being tossed around in my head I kept coming back to Blueberry Pancake Publishing. But it was kind of a mouthful and didn’t roll right off my tongue. It wasn’t like any other publishing company that I’d ever heard of and I decided that was a good thing. People might remember the name and might want to read more. The name… Blueberry Pancake Publishing came into my mind as I thought of things I love. Yes, I love blueberry pancakes but what I love is my memory ...

Ready or Not... Here I Come Part 2

Ready or Not... Here I Come Kindergarten Readiness Part 2 Your turn little ones: I know your mommy and daddy are probably reading this but that’s ok... it’s for them as well. Here’s a little list of things I would like you to work on over the summer before Kindergarten. You don’t need to work on all things listed every day... just a few things every day. Some of the things listed you may already know, others may be brand new. Just work on this list for about 15-20 minutes each day and have mommy or daddy read to you every night before bed. Sing the alphabet song. And practice making the sound each letter makes. Match upper case letters to the lower-case letters I’m thinking a game of match ... use index cards. Put all lower-case letters on each one and then the same for the upper class. Turn them upside down and play a memory game to match each letter. Also, you don’t have to do the whole alphabet at one time. A few letters at a time is great. Practice wri...

In My Office Today

Hello, all my Blueberry Pancake Publishing friends. I thought I’d share a little fun I often share with my friends and family about my time spent writing. Well, the life of a writer is a tad different from other jobs. First off, I have not made any money... yet. But like I said earlier, that’s ok.... I really write for myself. But also, my office moves to where ever I am. I may be at home. I may be on a college campus. I may be on a vacation with my husband or family. I write when my heart and my head match up with something bursting out of me. I usually must have had experienced something or maybe it’s a smell that triggers a memory for me or a feeling for me that I feel the need to write down. But whatever the reason, there’s usually a reason behind the stories. Many who know me, know that I am a lover of dogs. I mean, dogs are just good people. And truly, I don’t hang out with anyone who isn’t good people. Life is supposed to be wonderful and full of joy. I decided a lo...

Spotlight on our fabulous Illustrator ~ Ruxandra Darie

If you had to choose a color from a box of Crayola Crayons that you would like to use for the day, what color would it be? I’m not talking the small box… I’m saying the big box~64 crayons. For me, it would be blue. I love how cool blue is and how it calms my heart and soul. My favorite thing to do is to sit on a sunny day when the sky is as blue and wide as the eye can see, looking out over the ocean. The sound of the blue water crashing is very calming and peaceful to me. But I asked my friend this question the other day and her smile became brighter as she lit up the room searching for an answer. “All of them”, she finally said. Meet Ruxi Darie! Ruxi is a friend of mine I met through the International Women’s Club of Eindhoven. Her quiet but dynamic personality was like a beacon calling to me to get to know her. First we sat next to each other at a few meetings of the club enjoying our time chatting. Next I found myself in an art appreciation class with Ruxi and lo...

Ready or Not… Here I come! Kindergarten Readiness Part 1

Ready or Not… Here I come! Kindergarten Readiness Part 1 Parents First: If you have a little one that is due to begin Kindergarten in the coming fall, a lot of excitement and joy is probably spreading throughout the family. But accompanied with that joy is a little fear and yes, tears. I’m not saying whose tears are flowing but yes, it’s normal for both the parents and the child to get a tad emotional. This is where the love begins. Kindergarten Round-up In my teaching years, I taught Kindergarten for many years. Usually in the spring before Kindergarten, there is a Kindergarten Round-up (well, that’s what they call it in Texas). This is an evening when parents of future Kindergartners are invited to come hear a talk about the upcoming year. An explanation of the school and Kindergarten program are explained. Teachers are introduced and parents are invited to ask questions. This is a great time for schools to get a rough number to indicate how many children to ex...

Author Crush ~ Helen Beatrix Potter

Author Crush Helen Beatrix Potter With Easter coming right around the corner, I thought I’d share another crush I have on a writer. The writer of many favorites but my all-time favorite… The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Beatrix Potter. Born, Helen Beatrix Potter July 28, 1866~ December 22, 1943. The English writer, illustrator, natural scientist and conservationist was best known for her children’s books that featured animals like Peter. Beatrix was born into money and was educated by governesses. She was usually secluded from other children and as such she spent a great deal of time outside learning about nature, loving the little woodland creatures, drawing and painting them. Reading, painting and nature were her passions beginning from an early age. Publishing The Tale of Peter Rabbit in her 30’s, she began perusing writing children’s books and illustrating full time. What I love about The Tale of Peter Rabbit is that he is a naughty little bunny. He is...
